Franciscan Outreach was established in Chicago in 1963.  Franciscan Outreach attempts to reach out to people in poverty, while offering hospitality and services.  They provide meals, shelter, shower facilities and laundry services to hundreds of men, women, and children in the model of respect and dignity of St. Francis of Assisi.  In addition to providing emergency assistance, Franciscan Outreach also has professional case managers who help their guests with long-term services such as housing and job opportunities.

As one of the largest agencies caring for the homeless of Chicago, Franciscan Outreach recognizes that shelter resolve homelessness of a temporary basis.  Through excellent casework and partnerships with other organizations, like Rush University’s Community Service Initiatives Program and the Chicago Alliance to End Homelessness, Franciscan Outreach transitions hundreds of homeless individuals into permanent housing each year, in addition to the daily provision of more than 300 beds and more than 700 meals.
